Dear Earl Boyles Parents, Students, and Families,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are looking forward with enthusiasm to the new school year. We are pleased to have you as partners and want to assure you that we will do our best to help your child experience academic, social, and emotional growth. With your help, this will be an excellent school year. This letter includes important back to school information that helps in getting a good start to the year. As the year progresses, and as you become either more informed or more puzzled, we encourage you to call the school and talk with those who might be of help. If your questions deal with in-class events, please ask to speak with the teacher. If it deals with the overall program, curriculum, or activities, please feel free to contact me directly. One of our goals is to see that parents and guardians of students, like the students themselves, feel at home at Earl Boyles. To accomplish this we will communicate weekly through our bi-weekly newsletter called the BARK, which will provide information about school events and activities. We welcome and encourage your participation. It is my pleasure to be the principal of a school with terrific students, involved families, and a dedicated staff. The 2013-2014 year will prove to be an exciting one. Below are items of interest:

Construction Continues at Earl Boyles:

Construction on the Early Learning Wing & Neighborhood Center at Earl Boyles Elementary continues to move along. Workers have begun to apply framing to the structure, and a rock climbing wall (viewable below) has been installed in the Earl Boyles gym. The Early Learning Wing & Neighborhood Center will help children arrive prepared for Kindergarten, and serve as a community-centered hub with a wealth of resources and information.

The Early Works Initiative at Earl Boyles:

"The fundamental goal of the Early Works initiative is to help children arrive at kindergarten ready for success, prepared to meet critical benchmarks by third grade, and able to go on to achieve success in school and life. The school is the anchor for this project, serving as a place for community partners to provide resources, information, services, and educational opportunities for children ages birth to eight. These early learning experiences then become part of a robust elementary education." (Learn more at http://early-works.org)

Support Our Community Project

Early Learning WingEarly Learning Wing

Construction is underway for an Early Learning Wing and Neighborhood Center at Earl Boyles Elementary School. Private and public donors have helped sponsor the new facility but a funding gap still remains. To raise funds, the David Douglas Educational Foundation is heading up the Earl Boyles Community Campaign. To support the Early Learning Wing, donors can give money directly to the Foundation. In addition, reflecting the project’s strong community ties, Hector Hernandez, a local artist, designed a large, colorful mosaic mural to be displayed in the entrance of the new wing. To support this project anyone is welcome to purchase a name to be displayed surrounding the mosaic design. Have a loved one, community member or family name be a permanent part of the art piece. Each individual name cost $25. The sale is for a limited time. Purchase now and show support for our school community.
