ABSENCES
Please call the office by 9:15 a.m. when your child is going to be absent. If we do not receive a call, the office will attempt to contact the parent. A written note stating the date(s) and reason for the absence is required when he/she returns to school.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
This year, families will not need to purchase and bring in their own school supplies. Instead, we are asking for a $20.00 fee to be paid the first week of school. This fee will provide your child with the necessary supplies for the entire year.
EARL BOYLES BARK
The Earl Boyles BARK is our bi-weekly newsletter. Information about schedule changes and special events will be announced in the BARK. The BARK will go home every other week in the Wednesday folders.
DISMISSAL
Students in grades K-5 will all be released at the same time. School hours will be from 9:00 am to 3:15pm.
PICKING UP STUDENTS
Students will not be released without a parent or designated adult signing them out from the office. Please update your emergency contacts and numbers.
PARENTS/VISITORS MUST WEAR A BADGE
To ensure the safety of students, all visitors must wear a badge and sign in at the office. If you are dropping your child off at school you may walk them to the door without checking in. Any parent entering the building will be asked to wear a badge. Thank you for helping to make Earl Boyles safe.
LOCKED DOORS
All doors (other than the front doors) are locked the entire day. All visitors must enter through the front doors.
TEACHER ASSIGNMENTS
Class lists for Kinder through 5th grade will be posted at the Back To School Night (Thursday, August 30th) and on the front door windows Friday, August 31st. Teacher assignments will not be available prior to this time. Please note that careful consideration goes into making class lists. Requests for change are granted only in extreme situations.
BUS ROUTES
Please be sure to check the enclosed schedule. If you have any questions about the routes please call the Bus Garage at (503) 256-6526.
ALL DAY KINDERGARTEN
All elementary schools in David Douglas have full day Kindergarten programs. We have two Kindergarten classrooms here at Earl Boyles. If our classrooms reach capacity, then we will bus additional students to other schools in our district that have space.
PRESCHOOL CLASSROOM
This year we will once again have a pre-school on sight. The preschool is for 3-4 year olds and the schedule will be as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday class sessions: 8:00-11:30 a.m. session, 12:00-3:30 p.m. session. Wednesday there will be no student’s; it will be a home visit day, and a day of training for staff. Mrs. Megan Larsen will be our preschool teacher.
SCHOOL WIDE ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT (ELD)
All David Douglas Schools will be implementing a school-wide walk to ELD model this year. All staff members have been trained on Language Development, and are prepared to instruct your child in their classroom. All students will benefit from a 30-minute walk-to language block to enhance their English Language skills. Be sure to ask your child about the program.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING TEAM (PLT) WEDNESDAYS
Our schools will open one hour late every Wednesday this school year. This schedule change will happen every Wednesday for all of our schools. Teachers and principals will use this one hour of extra time every week to plan and implement school improvements. Increasing academic achievement for every student will be the focus of these planning periods. This means that every Wednesday this school year, elementary schools will start for students at 10 a.m., while the middle schools and David Douglas High School will start at 9 a.m. Bus schedules will be altered accordingly. This also means there will be no early release days this year. We know this schedule change will cause our families to plan differently for Wednesday mornings. We want to give early notice so that families can begin planning for it now. We think this is the best way to ensure that our schools are doing everything possible for our students to succeed academically.
RECESS BEFORE LUNCH
Students will be dismissed to the playground for play and then brought in to eat. With this system children are more ready to eat and not in a hurry to get outside and play, therefore less food is thrown away. Students also return to class feeling more full and settled.
