Bree Elkins, Counselor

Hi Bulldog families!

My name is Bree Elkins and I am the school counselor at Earl Boyles Elementary! I am a first-year school counselor and I am looking forward to working with and learning from the amazing students, families, and staff that make up our school community. I believe in the importance of supporting the whole child holistically in order to best serve students’ social-emotional, academic, and career-focused needs, and do so by meeting with students individually, in small groups, and delivering whole class guidance lessons.

Outside of Earl Boyles, you’ll likely find me strolling the streets with my 17 year old dachshund, Khloe, or eating blizzards from Dairy Queen.

I am so grateful to be a part of the Earl Boyles community! This is my 20th year of teaching and my twenty-sixth year of working in public schools; I can’t think of a better place to be!  As a teacher I’ve taught Kindergarten, 1st, 5th, 6th grade and college levels as well as Kindergarten through 5th grade English as a Second Language (ESL). This is also my tenth year serving as a Language Development Specialist and Instructional Coach to support our unique language model. Kayla Thomas-Walker, Behavior Specialist/Student Climate Coach

I’m excited to take on this new role to support students, staff, and families at Earl Boyles. As the Behavior Specialist/School Climate Coach, I work with classroom teachers on community building and professional learning around equitable and inclusive practices. This year we will continue to use Toolbox to teach students strategies for dealing with challenging situations and feelings.

I also support our school community with using restorative practices for problem solving. We believe that student voice is critical in the process of solving problems, and all students deserve to be seen, heard, and valued. I’m so proud to be a part of this community, and I look forward to the opportunity to interact with even more of our amazing students, families, and community members this school year!

Christie Collier, Title 1

Greetings, Bulldogs! I would like to introduce myself as the new Title 1 teacher at Earl Boyles Elementary School. I am so thankful to be joining the team here and can’t wait to meet our students and families this school year. I have recently moved to Oregon from Memphis, Tennessee, where I was an elementary teacher for ten years, working as a 1st grade teacher, 3rd grade teacher, and most recently a K-5 Academic Interventionist.

I am excited to learn more about the Earl Boyles community and create positive partnerships with the students and families I am here to serve. It is my goal to provide and support our students in areas of literacy, social skills, and emotional needs and help them foster a love of reading. As your child’s Title 1 teacher, I will be working with your child and guiding them through the reading process and setting goals that move toward the achievement of curriculum outcomes. I cannot wait to see your children grow this school year!

A little about myself. I like to go by Mr. My. I love spending time with my family, which looks like cooking and having Sunday evenings with everyone around.

Cassy Pinard, Music

Carrie Tercek, Preschool

Katie Nordstrom, Preschool

It is such a privilege to be part of the Earl Boyles team! I am proud to be a fourth-generation educator. Teaching young children with diverse needs has been my passion since I was 14, when I began providing in-home therapeutic services for children with autism under the guidance of my mom, an early childhood autism specialist.  In 2004, I began working in Early Childhood Special Education as an assistant, and in 2009 as an ECSE teacher. My philosophy is that young children learn best through play and natural routines; my role is to provide individualized supports to promote their development in the context of fun, functional activities.

I live in a house in the woods with my husband Nils and dog Tony, just down the road from my childhood home in Oregon City. I love to cook and preserve food from my family’s large garden, read, hike, and travel as often as I can.  I also teach yoga, and strive to balance an active lifestyle with an undeniable soft spot for chocolate and cheese, power naps, and Netflix marathons.

Since our school re-opened in 2002, it has continued to evolve as a progressive, community-based school where great work is completed daily by students, families, staff, and community members. I am proud to be a teacher on this extraordinary team. Second grade is an especially exciting year where students build upon their foundational skills in reading and writing and become independent readers and writers.  As a teacher I strive to challenge students of all abilities while keeping school a fun and exciting experience. Teamwork, community building, high quality read alouds, the arts, and movement are all important to me.  When I’m not at school, I enjoy playing sports, baking, reading, and traveling/exploring/playing with my husband and sons.  I look forward to the upcoming school year.  Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me!
