Carrie Tercek, Student Behavior Specialist
I feel so blessed to be working my 11th year here at Earl Boyles. This is the best staff, students and families in Oregon! It is amazing that this is my 17th year as an educator. I have taught as a classroom teacher, as special education teacher, and currently I am a “teacher on special assignment,” as the Student Behavior Specialist, or SBS. I have the privilege of interacting with all students at Earl Boyles in various ways, including problem solving, supporting behavior needs, instructing in social/emotional lessons in small groups, advocating for students, and working along side teachers and parents to make school successful for all students. I will see and interact with our students on the playground, in the cafeteria, in the hallways and in their classrooms. My job is to support students and teachers in creating a supportive, happy and safe environment where all students succeed and grow as learners and citizens.
I love this school and community so much that now my two children are also students at Earl Boyles, in Kindergarten and Third grade. When I am not giving my heart to your children, I am enjoying my own. We like to spend time outdoors, read, play, go for bike rides and spend time with our family/cousins. I have a personal goal this year to get back into sewing or knitting, we will see which wins. I look forward to a wonderful 2019-2020 school year.

Annemarie Reyes, P.E.
I am so excited to be back at this wonderful school! This is my ninth year working in Portland schools, fourth year at Earl Boyles, and first year as a certified teacher. I worked at Earl Boyles as the Playworks Program Coordinator and was known as Coach AM for two years. I left in 2017 to get my teaching license, and I taught Kindergarten and 4th grade at Laurelhurst School in PPS. Now, I go by Ms. Reyes, and I love getting to work with all PK-5th students as the Physical Education teacher. I teach because I believe in the transformative power of education. PE is a key component of a quality education. My goal this year is to help all students make growth in being physically literate individuals.
Outside of school, I enjoy cooking, baking, and spending time with my family. I also love to be active, and I often try out different activities like ballet, boxing, and gymnastics.
Here’s to a great year!

Natalie Stemler, Preschool
I am excited and proud to begin another year as a Bulldog!
I have been an Early Childhood teacher for over 12 years, earning my Masters Degree in 2009. I joined the Earl Boyles’ community in 2015 and feel fortunate to be surrounded by the many talented, dedicated, and inspiring group of educators, families, and students that make Earl Boyles the special place it is.
The early childhood years are critical for learning social, language, and cognitive skills that produce both short and long-term effects on a child’s development. It is my hope to be your partner as your child begins his/her education journey here at Earl Boyles. I am confident that together we can foster a love for learning that will last a lifetime…
Katie Nordstrom, Preschool
It is such a privilege to be part of the Earl Boyles team! I am proud to be a fourth-generation educator. Teaching young children with diverse needs has been my passion since I was 14, when I began providing in-home therapeutic services for children with autism under the guidance of my mom, an early childhood autism specialist. In 2004, I began working in Early Childhood Special Education as an assistant, and in 2009 as an ECSE teacher. My philosophy is that young children learn best through play and natural routines; my role is to provide individualized supports to promote their development in the context of fun, functional activities.
I live in a house in the woods with my husband Nils and dog Tony, just down the road from my childhood home in Oregon City. I love to cook and preserve food from my family’s large garden, read, hike, and travel as often as I can. I also teach yoga, and strive to balance an active lifestyle with an undeniable soft spot for chocolate and cheese, power naps, and Netflix marathons.

Since our school re-opened in 2002, it has continued to evolve as a progressive, community-based school where great work is completed daily by students, families, staff, and community members. I am proud to be a teacher on this extraordinary team. Third grade is an especially exciting year where students mature as readers and writers by pulling together all the skills they have mastered in early elementary school. As a teacher I strive to challenge students of all abilities while keeping school a fun and exciting experience. Teamwork, community building, high quality read alouds, the arts, and movement are all important to me. My role as a teacher is to assist students as they develop their full potential while keeping school an inspiring and fun experience. Fanny Bretsch, Fourth Grade
I moved to Oregon just over three years ago from New York and once licensed began looking for my new home (school). Earl Boyles was a no-brainer when I was offered a permanent fourth grade position. I am very blessed to be apart of the Earl Boyles family and community. The students and families warm my heart and my colleagues challenge me to be a better teacher. I strive to make a warm, welcome and respectful community for the learners in my classroom. I believe that education is a right for all and students deserve to be met at their learning level. I vow to partner with families in the best interest of their child, and to give every student my all, every day. I hope my passion for reading is contagious and it inspires a love of literature in my students this year. My husband and I spend our spare time outdoors exploring the Seven Wonders of Oregon. We are especially fond of the Oregon Coast and Bend and spent many weekends sitting on the beach reading and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
