I am so thankful to be a part of the Earl Boyles family! I love the diversity and community that Earl Boyles offers. This is my nineteenth year of teaching and my twenty-fifth year of working in public schools; I can’t think of a better place to be! As a teacher I’ve taught Kindergarten, 1st, 5th, 6th grade and college levels as well as Kindergarten through 5th grade ESL (English as a Second Language). This is also my ninth year serving as a Language Development Specialist and Instructional Coach to support our unique language model.
I am grateful to get to work with all of our brilliant students and teachers. This year I hope to meet all of our families through distance learning as well! Outside this fantastic school community I love spending time with my amazing husband and wonderful teenage daughters. We enjoy all that Portland has to offer! Typically, during the summer we travel to different countries to experience life, culture, art, music and cuisines from all over the world. While we teach during the school year, we LEARN from everyone we meet every day!
Carrie Tercek, Student Behavior Specialist
I feel so blessed to be working my 12th year here at Earl Boyles. This is the best staff, students and families in Oregon! It is amazing that this is my 18th year as an educator. I have taught as a classroom teacher, as a special education teacher, and currently I am a “teacher on special assignment,” as the Student Behavior Specialist, or SBS. I have the privilege of interacting with all students at Earl Boyles in various ways, including problem solving, supporting behavior needs, instructing in social/emotional lessons in small groups, advocating for students, and working along side teachers and parents to make school successful for all students. I will see and interact with our students on the playground, in the cafeteria, in the hallways and in their classrooms. My job is to support students and teachers in creating a supportive, happy and safe environment where all students succeed and grow as learners and citizens.
I love this school and community so much that now my two children are also students at Earl Boyles, in First grade and Fourth grade. When I am not giving my heart to your children, I am enjoying my own. We like to spend time outdoors, read, play, go for bike rides and spend time with our family/cousins. I have a personal goal this year to get back into sewing or knitting, we will see which wins. I look forward to a wonderful 2020-2021 school year.
During this time of Comprehensive Distance Learning, I will not be in the SBS role. I am working for the district and as a classroom substitute as assigned. I will be the Earl Boyles SBS once we return to the school building. Families can still reach me by email, I would be happy to continue to support you. I wish all families wellness during this time of uncertainty.

Katie Nordstrom, Preschool
It is such a privilege to be part of the Earl Boyles team! I am proud to be a fourth-generation educator. Teaching young children with diverse needs has been my passion since I was 14, when I began providing in-home therapeutic services for children with autism under the guidance of my mom, an early childhood autism specialist. In 2004, I began working in Early Childhood Special Education as an assistant, and in 2009 as an ECSE teacher. My philosophy is that young children learn best through play and natural routines; my role is to provide individualized supports to promote their development in the context of fun, functional activities.
I live in a house in the woods with my husband Nils and dog Tony, just down the road from my childhood home in Oregon City. I love to cook and preserve food from my family’s large garden, read, hike, and travel as often as I can. I also teach yoga, and strive to balance an active lifestyle with an undeniable soft spot for chocolate and cheese, power naps, and Netflix marathons.

My role as a teacher is to assist students as they develop their full potential while keeping school an inspiring and fun experience. My goal is for each student to feel treasured, respected, empowered, and capable of success. Students will learn how to set goals and that making mistakes and developing perseverance are essential to the learning process. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, bicycle riding, reading, and gardening. I look forward to partnering with you in your child’s education!

Hello Bulldog Families,
It has been 10 years since I was last at EB! I have missed the community and I am happy to be back as your 4th grade teacher. During my time away I taught 3rd and 5th grade and helped students as a Language Coach and Behavior Specialist. The last three years I have had the pleasure of being the Vice Principal at the DD Alternative High School; Fir Ridge Campus. I have learned a tremendous amount from my stops around the district and I feel very fortunate about being back as a “Bulldog” working with students and families.
I believe in the power of personal relationships and I am here for you all. I have three wonderful children and an awesome wife who is also a teacher. Let’s make this a great year as we navigate challenges together. We can do this!
